Splash Training Program

Splash of LA, our annual community arts festival, is not only a chance to give back to our community, but also an opportunity to teach high school students fundamental skills for their professional careers. Each year, 100 local youth gain hands-on experience assisting in event production, obtaining entry-level professional experience that prepares them for their future. It becomes a great opportunity for them to gain that real-life work experience before their first job.

  • Students greet and welcome guests to Splash of LA and provide them with an overview of the program, resources, and interactive activities available. They are available to answer any questions attendees may have, and are supervised by adult volunteers who are trained in emergency response, de-escalation, and first-aid provided by the Red Cross.

Students learn the importance of being hospitable and caring for the audience by hosting a station where they provide face masks, sunblock, water, and snacks to remind attendees to stay cool and hydrated.

  • Students reach out to community organizations to bring resources to the festival for youth and families. The team conducts research on resources and services sought by community members, correspond with partners via email and phone, and follow up and confirm Splash of LA participation.

  • Students learn how to operate and setup sound equipment for the live performances. They also create the script and run-of-show for the MC's (also students)!

  • Students are responsible for curating all live performances for Splash of LA. The team hosts auditions and coordinates performers and setlist.

  • Students are in charge of getting the word out as much as possible! The team leads all adverting efforts for Splash of LA, including the creative and design process for posters, digital fliers, and social media content and campaigns.

They learn about social media management & strategies, content creation, and the importance of knowing the audience.

  • Students design arts & game activities that engage youth and festival attendees. They conceptualize activities, such as tie-dying and giant jenga, and procure materials to make and facilitate them. The team tests the activities for safety and resolves any technical issues prior to the festival.
